"gotta act!"

learning through drama
Called "gotta act!" because substance abuse prevention is not someone else's problem, we all gotta act on the solution!. It is improbable Players' basic 2-hour interactive, participatory workshop, tailored to your organization, and taught by members of the troupe who are experienced teaching artists. Up to 30 participants.

  • Observe classic roles around substance abuse.
  • Practice healthy responses.
  • Create scenes and stories about issues in your community that you face.
  • Give voice and action to your solutions to community drinking/drug abuse.
  • Practice theater skills for your own prevention presentations.

After scene improvisations actors write monologues based on characters they created.
sociodama = group issues
Improbable players develop their own performances with their own personal experience. But in basic workshops the Players use "sociodrama", a style of theater that concerns itself with group issues. It is a group action method in which participants improvise on an agreed upon social situation and discover alternative ways of dealing with the problem.

In the workshops, the Players never ask students or teachers to reveal anything personal about themselves.This style of interactive improvisation provides a safe environment to explore and work on issues.
It's not therapy -but often, working on solutions is very theraputic.
