teaching artists: clean and sober

Are you a talented sober actor, musician, or stand-up comic living in Boston or New York? Are you between the ages of 18-45, have a background and experience in performing and teaching, and thrive working in an ensemble?

Do you long to merge your creativity and your sobriety - and not have to hide either of them?  If you enjoy 'giving back', this is one of the best jobs you'll ever have! Contact the Players office to learn about openings in Boston and New York.

  • Paid performances, rehearsals, and travel expenses.
  • Writing new plays and sketches through improv.
  • Sharing your experience, strength and hope with audiences.

You must be one year clean and sober to audition.

on the road in new york

Fall 2011
Improbable Players welcomes Brian J, long-term Boston actor, back to the east coast. Brian is now Associate Artistic Director for the New York troupe after two years in San Francisco where he earned his MFA in Acting at the American Conservatory Theater.

"Who are these addicts, and what do they look like?

The New York troupe is on the road: meet Steven, Mary, Maiken, and Matt. Not pictured: Christopher, Brian, and Arielle.

These talented teaching artists are bringing their long-term recovery, lengthy acting experience, and extensive work with young people to the Players, touring the improbable repertoire of plays and drama workshops to schools and conferences in the tri-state area and beyond.

"Your troupe has been to our town many times before.  It's always great to hear what the kids have to say after your programs - you really get them to open up." Anonymous facultymember, high school in New Jersey

"I can honestly say I remember seeing the program in high school, feeling the way I felt and thinking, 'Oh, wow! These people don't drink and they're happy.  Maybe I can have a life after all."  Players' actress
